Islamic Finance Seminar in Malta

:The Malta Institute of Management (MIM), the Malta Union of Bank Employees (MUBE) and the Malta Employers Association (MEA) will be organising the second Islamic Finance Seminar in Malta.The seminar will take place on Friday 28 November 2008 at 5.00pm at the Radisson SAS Baypoint, St Julians.
The Malta Financial Services Authority is now examining and analysing the possibility of Malta tapping into the opportunity of Islamic Finance. It has issued a consultation to which different feedback was given from the financial services industry.
The MFSA seems to be heading towards enabling the necessary changes for Shariah compliant financial institutions to operate through and in Malta.
This seminar is open to Accountants, Auditors, Advocates, Legal Advisors, Bank Managers, Bank Employees, Insurances, Fund Administrators, Fund Managers, The Financial Services Sector in general and Students.
Among others, the seminar will be addressed by Prof Abdullah Al Shami, a Professor of Comparative Islamic Jurisprudence and Islamic Studies who now lectures at the Petroleum Institute in AbuDhabi ,after the Saba University in the Republic of Yemen where he was the Chancellor as well as an Islamic Law Professor.
Reuben Buttigieg, Chairperson of the Management School of the Malta Institute of Management., will also address the seminar. Mr Buttigieg is also Managing Director of Erremme Business Advisors, an accountancy, business and management consultancy firm.

Seminar explains main features of Islamic banking
THE main features, challenges and issues concerning Islamic banking were highlighted at a seminar on Risk Management and Islamic Banking, jointly organised by the Institute of Risk Management (UK), Middle East Regional Group and Pakistan Engineers Forum (PEF) at the Qatar Financial Centre recently.
PEF president Rashid Ali welcomed the guests and introduced the speakers to the audience.
IRM Middle East Group Chairman Rahat Latif gave a brief presentation on risk management with emphasis on management principles, standards, membership benefits and the learning pyramids.
Qatar Consulting Company managing director Wahid Qaiser made a presentation on Islamic Finance.
He explained the main features, challenges and issues of Islamic banking while comparing it with conventional banking. A question-answer session followed.
Deputy head of Pakistani mission Zahid Nasrullah, Qatar Foundation Deputy Financial Director Faisal Rashid Khayareen al-Hajri, Citi Bank CEO Farhan Mehmood, Garry Monks field, Michel Lesser, Dr Mahesh Thapliyal, Donald Sticklnd, Charlie Murdoch, Mohamed Atiq, Junaid bin Idris, Afaq Haleem, Dr Akmal Rana, Salman Masoom and Salim Kapoorwala were among those present.
