Malaysia: Danone Dumex Launches Halal Children Nutrition Production Line

Danone Dumex has announced an investment package of RM65 million (EUR 12.7 million) to upgrade its children's nutrition production line at its Nilai plant.

The company said the expansion was to meet growing demand in the growing Halal sector of the children’s nutrition market both in Malaysia and in the Middle East and Africa

The new EazyPack production line has a monthly production capacity of up to 2.6 million units which will be sold both into domestic and foreign markets.

Gerald Geraets, the firm’s managing director for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei, said the new EazyPack line which was one of the five operating in the group and was the first to have the Jakim Halal certification.

“This state-the-art facility and an on-going commitment to quality have combined to enable us to pack a wide range of milk powder based products in different formats..in cans, in pouches and now, in the innovative Eazypack,” he said.

“At present, some 70 percent of total production is for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei and the rest is exported to other countries in Southeast Asia, Middle East and Africa.”

He added the Halal certification would also be a springboard for the group to further expand its child nutrition business into the Muslim countries in the Middle East and Africa.
