KUNA : Bank of Kuwait and the Middle East (BKME) announced yesterday that it would sponsor the Ninth International Conference of Islamic Financial Institutions as part of its efforts to enhance banking activities.
The bank maintains its lead of efforts aiming to solve all issues relating to the Islamic financial and banking systems," BKME Board Chairman and Managing Director Hamad Al-Marzouq said.Al-Marzouq hailed the planned conference as "the largest gathering of representatives of the world's Islamic financial institutions.
Out of deep conviction of community-based and charitable activities, the BKME is keen on bolstering cooperation among the Islamic financial institutions in the framework of its message to the Middle East," he said. The BKME received approval from the Central Bank of Kuwait to transform into an Islamic Sharia-abiding bank.
The conference themed "Technical Problems and Sharia Views," to be held on January 11-12 in Kuwait, is expected to focus on the issues of the world's capital markets, real property funding, Islamic finance and technical and legal issues such as zakat (alms for the poor) laws.
