Two Win HSBC Amanah Awards

New Straits Times : AS part of its efforts to support human capital development in Islamic finance and groom university graduates for future leadership and management roles in the industry, HSBC Amanah Malaysia Bhd awarded the HSBC Amanah scholarship to its first two recipients recently.

HSBC Amanah Malaysia acting chief executive officer Musa Abdul Malek presented the scholarships to Akmal Solihi Mohd Yazid and Nadhrah Hashim, both students of International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).

Akmal Solihi is pursuing a Bachelor of Law (syariah) while Nadhrah is pursuing a Bachelor of Human Sciences (English language and literature).

"We launched the HSBC Amanah scholarship programme earlier this year with the objective of recognising and rewarding academic excellence and all-round ability of students.

"By providing scholarships and offering students employment opportunities with HSBC Amanah Malaysia, we hope to grow and manage talent in the Islamic finance industry," said Musa.

HSBC Amanah Malaysia received 102 applications from IIUM students.

"Akmal Solihi and Nadhrah possessed all the right qualities and attitude that we are looking for."

Nadhrah, 22, said: "I am very honoured and grateful to receive this scholarship which would help me complete my studies and encourage me to excel further. I really look forward to exploring new opportunities with HSBC Amanah Malaysia and contributing to society."

IIUM rector Prof Datuk Dr. Syed Arabi Idid said: "HSBC Amanah Malaysia has our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for supporting these two IIUM students".

HSBC Amanah Malaysia is likely to expand the scholarship to other universities and institutions of higher learning.

The bank would like to see more Malaysians develop their skills and knowledge to provide talent support to the growing Islamic finance industry.

Musa also noted that the availability of trained and qualified talents is vital for the success of the government's Malaysia International Islamic Financial Centre initiative as well as for HSBC Amanah Malaysia as the regional centre of excellence for Islamic finance for the HSBC Group.
