Malaysian Halal Products To Be Showcased In Bangladesh

Bernama -- A four-day event, Halal Malaysia Week (HMW) 2008, begins here on Wednesday (July 23) for showcasing Malaysian halal products and services.

Business matching sessions will be also held at the event which will see the participation of 30 Malaysian halal manufacturers and over 80 members of the Malaysian business community at the Dhaka Sheraton Hotel.

"The main objective of HMW in Dhaka is to become a platform for business communities of Bangladesh and Malaysia to forge and develop further linkages and collaborations in the halal sector", said Malaysian High Commissioner Datuk Abdul Malek Bin Abdul Aziz at a press conference here today.

The High Commissioner expressed hope that such linkages and collaboration between the business communities of the two countries would contribute to further developing Bangladeshi's own local halal market.

"The HMW is also to promote Malaysian Halal Certification or Halal logo and Malaysian Halal certified products and services globally beginning with Bangladesh", he added.

Hazizah Awang, president of Epic Tips, a promotion and marketing agency for Malaysian entrepreneurs, said "While Malaysia is serious in developing the global halal market, it is also committed to push for more local players overseas, and at the same time, is sincere in developing the regional halal markets where it trades in."

She said Malaysia is well aware of the global halal market potential and Bangladeshs highly untapped market where a big majority of consumers are Muslims.

"A significant portion of the US$580 billion global consumption for halal products is in the Indian sub-continent, and sizeable chunk of the regional market is in Bangladesh," Hazizah Awang said.

A seminar will be also held during the HMW covering topics such as Malaysian Halal certification
