Seminar explains main features of Islamic banking

THE main features, challenges and issues concerning Islamic banking were highlighted at a seminar on Risk Management and Islamic Banking, jointly organised by the Institute of Risk Management (UK), Middle East Regional Group and Pakistan Engineers Forum (PEF) at the Qatar Financial Centre recently.

PEF president Rashid Ali welcomed the guests and introduced the speakers to the audience.

IRM Middle East Group Chairman Rahat Latif gave a brief presentation on risk management with emphasis on management principles, standards, membership benefits and the learning pyramids.

Qatar Consulting Company managing director Wahid Qaiser made a presentation on Islamic Finance.

He explained the main features, challenges and issues of Islamic banking while comparing it with conventional banking. A question-answer session followed.

Deputy head of Pakistani mission Zahid Nasrullah, Qatar Foundation Deputy Financial Director Faisal Rashid Khayareen al-Hajri, Citi Bank CEO Farhan Mehmood, Garry Monks field, Michel Lesser, Dr Mahesh Thapliyal, Donald Sticklnd, Charlie Murdoch, Mohamed Atiq, Junaid bin Idris, Afaq Haleem, Dr Akmal Rana, Salman Masoom and Salim Kapoorwala were among those present.
