SBP seeks information about Sukuk issues

KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has asked all Islamic banks and conventional banks having Islamic banking branches to provide information regarding the issuance of those Sukuks where the Islamic Banking Institution (IBI) concerned is involved as an issuer or a lead arranger on quarterly basis.

SBP asked these institutions through a circular on Wednesday to send the information as a footnote to the Quarterly Report of Condition to its Islamic Banking Department.

They have been asked to inform the central bank of issue date, maturity date, amount (in dollar and rupee), tenor with grace period if any, rate, issuer, international investors, a list of local subscribers if Sukuk is privately placed, Islamic modes applied, whether it is SLR eligible or not, and exchange rate in case of international Sukuk. Furthermore, they were also asked to submit the requisite information about the Sukuk issued till date by March 10, 2008. staff report.
