
KUALA LUMPUR -- KPMG, global audit, tax and advisory services firm has been named the Best Islamic Assurance & Advisory Services Provider by Euromoney magazine in its 2008 Euromoney Islamic Finance Awards.
"KPMG's breadth of assignments and the key diverse geographic spread of their business was very impressive and was a key factor in selecting the company for the award," the magazine said in a statement issued by KPMG here Wednesday.
KPMG's assignments span Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa and it is well positioned to work with its clients as Islamic finance expands globally, Euromoney added.
It said KPMG member firms have provided assurance and advisory services to over 50 Islamic financial institution in the United Kingdom and Western Europe, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, the Far East, North America and Africa.
"Through intense focus on our clients' business objectives and a collaborative approach towards implementation, we have been privileged to work alongside our clients and the regulatory authorities as this fascinating market has expanded and matured," its global leader for Islamic finance and Malaysian head of financial services, Dr John Lee, said.
Lee said KPMG is now in a position of dominance in Malaysia in terms of its share in audit, tax and advisory work for Islamic finance institutions.
"We believe with our global network, we will be able to assist the Malaysian government and Bank Negara Malaysia through Malaysia International Islamic Financial Centre to promote this country as the Islamic finance hub in the Asia Pacific region," he added.
