HSBC Malaysia Showcases Islamic Banking At Exhibition

KUALA LUMPUR-HSBC Bank Malaysia Bhd is showcasing Islamic banking at the Malaysia Services Exhibition in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, organised by Malaysian External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade).

HSBC Amanah, the Islamic banking arm of HSBC Malaysia, and HSBC Amanah Takaful (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd are using the three-day event, which will end tomorrow, as a platform to enhance the visibility of the Malaysian Islamic finance sector, the bank said in a statement today.

"We strongly believe that it is our responsibility as one of the key players in the Malaysian Islamic financial sector to participate in this exhibition under the auspices of Bank Negara Malaysia," said HSBC Amanah's managing director Yakub Bobat.

"This is in line with Malaysia's aspiration to become an Islamic finance hub and the government's Malaysian International Islamic Financial Centre initiatives," he said.

HSBC Amanah Takaful's chief executive officer Keith Driver said HSBC's participation would open the doors for the bank to grow its Islamic banking and takaful business.

"This exhibition will also provide an avenue for the bank to network and forge strategic alliances with potential clients and future partners," he said.
